IRON BASED SUPER ALLOYS

Iron-based superalloys are metals whose primary component is iron, but they are characterized by the high proportions of other alloying elements added to them. These elements include nickel, chromium, cobalt, molybdenum, tungsten, aluminum, and titanium. When both iron and nickel are present in significant amounts, these alloys are often also referred to as nickel-iron based alloys. Their purpose is to surpass the high-temperature performance limits of conventional stainless steels and alloy steels, offering superalloy properties such as creep resistance, oxidation resistance, and corrosion resistance in a more cost-effective manner.

Although these alloys generally may not withstand extremely high temperatures as well as nickel-based superalloys, they exhibit excellent performance in the medium to high-temperature range (typically between 500°C and 800°C). Furthermore, thanks to their iron content, they can sometimes offer better thermal expansion properties.
